Eyelid Surgery in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Punta Gorda, FL

Do your friends or family members often tell you that you look tired, even when you’re not? If so, it could be due to dropping eyelids or puffy skin underneath the eyes. An eyelift in Fort Myers can correct these issues.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a procedure done to remove excess skin and/or fat from the eyelids. Some people wrongly refer to a blepharoplasty as an eyelid lift, though the eyelid is not lifted during this surgery.

Good candidates for eyelid surgery are those who have reasonable expectations and have droopy or baggy eyelids. During your consultation, Dr. Brueck will discuss with you the outcome of your surgery, based on whether you are undergoing surgery on the lower or upper eyelids in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, or Punta Gorda, FL. Sometimes when a patient is dealing with excessive skin on the upper eyelid, insurance will cover the costs of the procedure.

During lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Brueck will make an incision directly below the lash line or on the inside of the eyelid. If fat is being removed or added, an incision inside the lid is optimal for access to eyelid fat without leaving viable scarring.

During upper eyelid surgery in Cape Coral or Punta Gorda, Dr. Brueck will make an incision on the eyelid to excise any excess skin and fat. A small stitch is used to pull the skin together to create an eyelid crease.

The result of eyelid surgery is a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Eyes can also look larger, lids will be less droopy, and puffiness will be eliminated.

How long is recovery from blepharoplasty surgery in Fort Myers?

Patients will experience bruising and swelling after surgery, though this will quickly resolve. Cool compresses are great for reducing swelling and bruising around the eyes and on the face. Bandages will be placed on the incision sites, and will be removed in several days. Stitches may remain for about a week. Self-absorbing stitches may be used, which do not require removal at all.

During recovery, it is imperative to elevate your head and apply cool compresses to the eye area for optimal healing. Patients may shower and shampoo their hair the day after surgery, though it is recommended that baby shampoo be used to prevent interference with healing of the eyes.
