Eyelift Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Ft. Myers & Cape Coral, FL

As our bodies age, certain areas and facial regions show change more dramatically than others. Perhaps surprisingly, our eyes typically show some of the earliest signs of aging.

You likely use your eyes much more often than you even realize. The muscles in your upper face near your eyes move when you blink, speak, yawn, chew, laugh, and smile—unavoidably creating wrinkles, folds, and lines in your skin over time. If you have noticed the skin around your eyes looking sunken, heavy, or saggy and are feeling self-conscious, you are not alone.

At Beauty by Brueck, we commonly perform blepharoplasty, also known as “eyelift surgery.” Dr. Brueck offers this procedure to patients living near Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Punta Gorda, Florida who want to reduce the visible signs of aging. If you are curious about blepharoplasty, give us a call at 239-939-5233 . We can schedule a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Brueck so you can learn more about the procedure and discover if eyelift surgery is right for you.

Refresh and Rejuvenate Your Face With Cosmetic Eye Surgery in Ft. Myers

You use your eyes to express emotions and convey feelings, but eyes that are affected by aging tend to look tired, sad, bored, angry, or irritated. If the skin around your eyes becomes puffy or sunken due to aging, people may find it difficult to gauge how you are truly feeling. Luckily, eyelid lifts are a straightforward way to easily reverse many of these problems.

Eyelid Surgery Benefits Fort Myers FL

Eyelid surgeons help reduce the visible signs of aging and create a more youthful appearance for their patients by tightening skin and removing excess fat around the eyelids and eyebrows. If you have skin around your eyes that sags, hangs, droops, or interferes with your vision, eyelift surgery can help!

Dr. Brueck offers two different types of eyelift surgery: upper eyelid surgery and the lower blepharoplasty. You can choose to receive one or both of these procedures at our ambulatory surgery center.

During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Brueck makes a small incision on your upper eyelid and focuses on tightening the skin above your eye. For a lower blepharoplasty, Dr. Brueck will similarly make a small surgical incision either near your eyelash line or on the inside of your lower eyelid. You can expect to have very minimal scarring with either procedure and for the surgical site to be completely healed within a month.

Am I a Candidate for a Blepharoplasty?

Patients who have started to show the first signs of aging, such as a loss of lid elasticity, drooping, and hooding are considered excellent candidates for blepharoplasty. They are also in otherwise relatively good health, understand the risks and benefits of the procedure, and have realistic expectations about the possible outcome. Dr. Brueck will explain all of the risks, benefits, and possible alternative procedures during the consultation to ensure you completely understand what is involved.

Are Blepharoplasties Painful?

No, you will receive topical and local anesthetic prior to your procedure. During the recovery period, you will have slight discomfort and tenderness at the incision site, and you will also experience swelling. However, these symptoms are short-lived and easily relieved with over-the-counter pain relievers. If you experience extreme discomfort after your blepharoplasty, contact Dr. Brueck immediately for further guidance.

Are Blepharoplasties Considered a High-Risk Procedure?

No, blepharoplasties are not a high-risk procedure. In fact, most blepharoplasties are performed on an outpatient basis, so you can go home after a period of monitoring.

Who Should Avoid Having a Blepharoplasty?

There are certain individuals who may need to avoid having a blepharoplasty. Patients who have underlying bleeding disorders or genetic anomalies of their eyes may not be suitable candidates. In addition, patients who have had previous blepharoplasties may not have enough excess skin to safely perform the procedure. Dr. Brueck will examine your eyes in consultation to determine if you are a suitable candidate.

What Is the Recovery Period Like?

After your blepharoplasty, you will have several days to a week of recovery. You may need to take off from work until the swelling and tenderness subsides. In addition, you will need to avoid heavy lifting and certain types of exercises until you see Dr. Brueck for suture removal if you do not have absorbable sutures placed. It is also important to avoid rubbing or touching your eyes until you are completely healed. If you wear makeup, you will need to avoid application until you see Dr. Brueck for a follow-up appointment. Once cleared, you can then apply eye makeup as previously.
